"And all people live, Not by reason of any care they have for themselves, But by the love for them that is in other people. "

Community Based

Community Based Day Programs
The Community Based Day Programs are services from People's Care that is committed to providing aid for the developmentally disabled population through various academic, vocational, and creative programs. These programs are designed to challenge individuals as well as provide the behavioral and self-help support that they need. Participating individuals can expect to learn from program's integration of social consciousness and community involvement.

With every session conducted, People's Care will educate and empower clients, teaching them the skills to advocate for themselves and make informed choices. The training environment offers an open and least restrictive atmosphere helping individuals discover their strengths and use those to become valuable members of society.

The schedules for programs are flexible and target the participation of ambulatory and non ambulatory male and female adults who have been diagnosed as being developmentally disabled or those who are dealing with mental illness.

The facilitating team made up of Job Coaches from People's Care involve themselves in the program with dedication by joining them during breaks – sitting on the same table and exchanging stories with participants. With the program grounded on community involvement, the Job Coaches will work to eliminate division and encourage unity instead.

There will be opportunities to learn how to function productively within such community environments as banks, post offices, libraries, shopping malls, fast food restaurants, family restaurants, laundromats, marketplaces, movie theaters, bowling alleys and other places that opportunities for learning are presented. In these environments, individuals will learn skills like:

  • how to handle money
  • displaying appropriate social behavior
  • use of public phones
  • use of public restrooms
  • how to summon assistance in an emergency
  • how to access and enjoy recreation and leisure activities

By practicing their learned skills in actual settings, the participants are given a chance to become part of the community. The program helps build confidence in each participant by developing a lifestyle based on respect and understanding for others as well as fulfilling their role in the community.
