What is Autism?
Autism is a developmental disability caused by a neurological disorder which involves abnormal development of social skills, communication skills, and comprehension skills usually affecting children at around two to three years of age. Various symptoms include inability to interact socially, repetitive behavior, unexplained tantrums, and the tendency to self-injure. However, children with autism can also display exceptional skills like the ability to memorize minute details of informational trivia, rapid mathematical calculation, precise musical note recognition and other highly developed unique talents.
The program has services and supports grounded on the studies of Autism from diagnosis, treatment and expert research. The treatment for children with autism involve teaching skills repeatedly until significant progress is evident while keeping the family informed of measures that can be taken for continuous development. In most cases, treatment started at a young age can lead to more desirable results. In the progress of the program, People's Care will deliver the following services:
- Initial evaluation of the child and extent of treatment needed
- Family consultation and establishing appropriate goals
- Parent training and guidance on how to deal with the disorder
- Helpful instruction on problem solving and application of interventions
- Sessions on enhancing the skills and learning capacity of the child
- Intensive training on communication and interactive ability
- Regular documentation of the child's development
Because the program is home-based, it is flexible enough to custom fit the training sessions to the needs of the child with autism and the family members involved. We understand how great a factor the support from family members can help in the greater possibility of recovery. In this program, relationships will be nurtured in a positive atmosphere giving parents empowerment over Autism. For every child affected by autism, there is a unique person. The goal of this program is to touch the child’s uniqueness and enhance the potential for emotional and mental development.
