In 1998, Mike Kaiser, a former State Development Center Registered Nurse, decided that he could positively impact the lives of 4 people by developing a small residential care home. This home named “Kaiser Home” was set up to care for 4 people that were currently living in the state developmental center that had histories of very difficult behaviors.
Mike Kaiser knew that with the proper supports, these people currently living in a state run developmental center, could live in a regular home in a regular neighborhood just as you and I do. Many argued that he was being unrealistic; they said that People with developmental disabilities with such difficult behaviors could not be successful outside of an institution, but Mike was not deterred. His years of experience as a nurse working and studying the principles of applied behavior analysis had taught him that success could be had in a smaller less threatening environment.
All four of those original people that were transitioned into Kaiser Home are still living in the community in regular homes in regular neighborhoods.
Mike Kaiser's philosophy was and is still based on four basic principles.
Personal Choice, Community Involvement, Dignity all while living in a loving family like environment.
Kaiser Home turned into People's Care, and one residential home turned into many residential homes and adult daycare centers and in home personal care programs all based on the same basic principles.
